Online stores vs affiliate marketing

A lot of people asked me in the last few months if is it hard or easy to own an online store. Well, I don't own any, if you think about it. I don't, in the real sense of the word. When I told this to my friends they looked at me a bit confused. What do you mean?
Well, it is quite simple: I don't own any e-commerce website in the real sense of the word. Yes, but you sell things on the internet, right? Aaaa, I say, yes, I do! I do sell things on the internet but what I do there is not a real online store, the way I see it. In order to have a "real" online stores you need to manage sales, to manage stocks, to have people deliver products, etc.
What I do is much more easy. What I do is called affiliate marketing!
Affiliate marketing is an other thing. Affiliate marketing is actually a lot more easy than handle sales and stocks. In affiliate marketing you actually don't need to handle all these stuff, just to refer people to the seller. In some cases, you can actually display products on your website and even close sales, but actually, the one who will take care of the real product being delivered to the end user is the original seller.
This is very easy to do in online environment and it is kind like in the real world you say to a store owner, hey, John told me to come to you because you will help me find that particular product! The store owner will sell you that product and because John referred you to him, he will also get a piece of the pie. Get it? This is affiliate marketing!
See how the product has actually been sold and delivered by the original store, not by you, while you(John) just got a piece of the price of the product! It is that easy.
Online stores "in the real sense of the word", as I say, are actually real stores that instead or beside running a real store somewhere in the city, run an online store, but once a product has been ordered, they handle the delivery, stock management and all the responsibility until the product reaches the customer. That is the difference. Running an online store is a bit more than buying an ecommerce website template and build an online store that acts as an affiliate to some bigger player! But both are very profitable with the right kind of traffic!
