One of the most important things to keep in mind when thinking to develop an online store is that the user must always find the easiest ways to do certain things on your site. There are a few hot points that you always need to touch on an ecommerce site. For example:
Visible shopping cart button
This must be always visible so the user/customer be able to see at any moment what he/she has in the shopping cart in case the user wants to edit the shopping cart content or to checkout. The icon used must tell clearly what the button does and let room for no confusion.
Help information
That’s another thing a user looks for when trying to make a purchase. Is there any way to get support from people operating the site? Or if things go wrong there will be no possible or easy way to contact you? Have the contact information clearly displayed where everybody see them.
Have a phone number displayed on the site, direct communication is better than electronic communication and as much as we like to believe, a lot of the people buying things from the internet want to know they can really talk to a person using a phone number, not an electronic communication line like mail or messenger. If you can make this phone number tall free, it is way better. If you can do this, be sure your users see this on your site! Also have a “call to action” along with the phone number, something similar to “CALL NOW”. Don’t be afraid that people will call you, if they want to communicate with you, this is the best thing you can have because you have direct feedback is the most you can hope from your customers.
If you can, add an online chat system on your site, also showing when an operator is online and when it is no, so people know that they can chat with somebody from your site related to their purchases.
Make sure you offer your users multiple payment options
We are all different and our ways and possibilities to pay are also different so make sure everybody finds a way to buy products/services from your site. Offer online payment system because this is the most productive and popular way to pay on the internet these days, but don’t miss other payment options like paying through SMS, phone, check, bank, etc.
Testimonials
When it comes to shopping online, opinions of other people count a lot because there is no direct contact to the product so letting people know what other people purchasing the product think about it will build trust and confidence. Put names and locations, even pictures of the people giving testimonials. Don’t put false testimonials that people can track down as fake; it will only ruin your credibility!
Have a good about us/contact page!
Trust me, people look for this! Before buying anything from the internet, you are probably interested to find out a bit about who’s selling you those products. Well, everybody is interested, not only you! So a clear about us page (and contact) helps a lot in building credibility and trust so don’t treat such pages as unimportant or you will lose big time!
