E-commerce is getting more and more interesting to teenagers

Teenagers don't have their own credit card, that's for sure. However, it seems that a large part of people shopping online is made of teenagers, what actually proves that teens have access to their parents' credit card.
Studies show that about 80% of online teens age 12-17 visit retail sites,which actually represents an audience of 12 to 15 million teen shoppers. As reported by eBay, in April 2006, 6.4 million teens visited their site. Also Amazon reports 3 million.
Of course, age makes a difference. When it comes to online shopping, teenagers are more adept at Internet use than adults. Tenns spent a lot of their recent life in front of a computer, connected to whatever moves online.
Also, teens usually are more aware of technical things that happen on the internet, know how to handle online environment better and, believe it or not, they are more willing to read ads than adults. Adults that spend a lot on the internet tend to develop ad blindness and ignore ads while teenagers read them and even click them. This is good if you think that ads are a part of the commercial circuit and tells you about the value of a product, make you aware of the existence of that product and if you don't read ads, then it means the ad had no value and didn't make it's job. Teens are more willing to read them so products get easier to teens than to adults.
However, we must consider the facts that the conversion rates are lower with teenagers since their complete rate of online tasks is lower than at adults so it all ballances somewhere, but it is good to consider teens very well, when starting an online shop since they make great shoppers today and they will make even better shoppers tomorrow!
